Useful photographs for a portrait sculpture

You do not need a professional photo shoot—just several clear views of the subject.

A sculpture in progress surrounded by reference tools

Start with clear front, profile, and three-quarter views from both sides. Include the top and back of the head when possible.

Keep it simple

Use ordinary, even light. Stand far enough back that the face does not look stretched. Include the neck, shoulders, hair, clothing, hands, or other details that matter to the portrait.

A short video is useful but not required. For a memorial portrait, send photographs from the right age or period—even if some are imperfect.

Send what you have

Known measurements and a few notes about the subject can help. The studio will review the material and tell you if anything important is missing.
